Ugandan musician Eddy Kenzo has shared details about his family background, speaking about his late mother, his father, and the roots that shaped his identity.

The singer revealed that his mother was Rwandan and spoke Kinyarwanda fluently. Although she died when he was still young, Kenzo said he remembers hearing her speak the language and believes he would likely be fluent in it today had she lived longer.

Despite those maternal roots, Kenzo stressed that he considers himself fully Ugandan. He said he was born and raised in Masaka, specifically in Ssenyange, before later moving to Kampala.

Kenzo added that Masaka remains home for him, noting that even in death he would want to be laid to rest there. The award-winning singer also disclosed that his father was the late Chef Ali, who hailed from the Ankole region.

However, Kenzo explained that he had deliberately kept that information away from the media for a long time because he did not want personal matters to create unnecessary controversy around his music career.

According to him, the details about his father only became widely known after Yoweri Museveni publicly mentioned the relationship.

Kenzo said that once the revelation had been made publicly, there was little he could do to keep the matter private. He also revealed that growing up, he believed someone else was his father and only came to understand the truth later in life.
